Exploring Folegandros: The Ultimate 3-Day Scooter & ATV Itinerary

Day 1: Port Arrival, Clifftop Chora & the Sacred Sunset Trail

Your adventure begins at Karavostasis, Folegandros's practical and quiet harbor village. Upon collecting your rental scooter or ATV directly at the port, embark on the scenic 3.5-kilometer climb to Chora, a village perched dramatically on the edge of a sheer 200-meter cliff. Chora's historic core is car-free, so you must park your vehicle in the designated lot outside the entrance. Spend your afternoon walking through the narrow alleys, whitewashed squares, and the defensive 13th-century medieval Kastro quarter. At dusk, follow the iconic zigzag path up the clifftop to the whitewashed Church of Panagia, positioned 310 meters above the sea. This 20-minute walk offers a panoramic sunset over the endless blue Aegean. Conclude your evening with dinner at Chora's plazas under strings of lights.

Day 2: Beach Safari to Angali, Livadaki & Katergo Coves

On day two, leverage the flexibility of your rental vehicle to explore Folegandros's dramatic coastline. Ride down the winding road from Chora to Angali Beach, a golden-sand bay surrounded by steep cliffs. Angali is highly accessible by scooter or ATV, featuring a small parking area near the beach. From Angali, you can follow a scenic 15-minute coastal footpath to the quiet, pebbly Agios Nikolaos Beach. For a wilder adventure, ride back to Karavostasis and board a local boat to Katergo Beach, an unorganized cove featuring clear water and dramatic rock formations. If you prefer a secluded retreat, take the boat from Angali to Livadaki Beach, a pebbled cove backed by terraced cliffs. Pack water and snacks, as these beaches have limited services.

Day 3: The Rustic Ridge of Ano Meria & Traditional Gastronomy

Dedicate your final day to the rural northern highlands of Ano Meria, where the island's agricultural heritage remains intact. Ride along the central road to this scattered settlement, characterized by traditional stone farmsteads, terraced hillsides, and grazing goats. Stop at the Eco-Museum of Ano Meria to learn about historical farming tools and self-sufficient local life. Next, ride your scooter to the Panificio Bakery, a hidden local spot operated out of a private home, to try fresh home-baked pastries. For hiking enthusiasts, park your vehicle near the trail leading to the Aspropounta Lighthouse, built in 1919. Conclude your Folegandros journey at a traditional local taverna in Ano Meria to savor matsata—handmade thick pasta served with slow-cooked rooster or rabbit in tomato sauce, the island's signature comfort dish.
