Scooter & ATV Rental in Folegandros: The Complete Guide
Which vehicle, which licence, what it costs and where it takes you: everything you need before renting a scooter or ATV on Folegandros.
Why you need your own wheels on Folegandros
Folegandros is small — around 32 km2, 12 km end to end — but it is not a walkable island. One paved spine links Karavostasi port, Chora and Ano Meria, roughly 12 km in total, and everything worth seeing hangs off it: beach turn-offs, chapels, viewpoints, tavernas.
Buses exist and they meet the ferries, but they run to a timetable built around the villages, not around your swim. Miss the last one back from Agali and you are facing a 5 km climb in the dark. There are only one or two taxis on the whole island.
A scooter or an ATV turns a three-day stay into a proper island. You leave Chora at eight for an empty beach, come back for lunch, ride out to Ano Meria for sunset and still make dinner. That freedom is the main reason our customers tell us they would rent again.

Scooter or ATV? The honest comparison
The ATV does not always win. A scooter is cheaper, quicker on tarmac, parks anywhere and drinks almost no petrol. If you are solo or two light riders, you are based in Chora and you want Agali, Agios Nikolaos, Livadi and the port, the 125 does the job comfortably.
The ATV wins on three things: stability in wind, dirt tracks and luggage. With the meltemi blowing across the ridge road to Ano Meria, four wheels are simply calmer on the nerves. And the dirt tracks towards Ambeli and Ligaria are not scooter country.
- Take a scooter if you hold a motorcycle licence, travel light and stay on tarmac.
- Take an ATV if you only hold a car licence, ride two-up, carry a cool box and towels, or have never ridden a two-wheeler.

The fleet and what it costs by season
Five vehicles, all maintained by the same family since 1998. Prices are per day, in euro, and change only with the season — never with daily demand.
| Vehicle | Engine | Licence | Low (May, Sep–Oct) | Mid (Jun–Jul) | High (Aug) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CFORCE 450 ATV | 450 cc | B (car) | €65 | €70 | €80 |
| CFORCE 520 ATV | 520 cc | B (car) | €80 | €90 | €100 |
| Beverly 350 scooter | 350 cc | A2 / A | €50 | €60 | €60 |
| Symphony 125 scooter | 125 cc | A1 / A2 / A | €25 | €30 | €30 |
| Symphony 200 scooter | 200 cc | A1 / A2 / A | €30 | €35 | €35 |
The CFORCE 450 is the one most people ask for: two seats, enough torque for every climb, forgiving on dirt. The 520 EPS adds power steering, which matters on long days or with a passenger aboard.
Among the two-wheelers, the Symphony 125 is the ideal first scooter, the 200 gives you reserve on the hills, and the Beverly 350 suits experienced riders who want big-bike comfort on island roads. See the whole fleet with photos and the full price list.

Which licence you need
In Greece the licence categories are checked at handover and on the road. It is not a formality: without the right category, the insurance does not apply.
| Vehicle | Engine | EU/EEA category | Non-EU/EEA |
|---|---|---|---|
| ATV / quad | 450–520 cc | B (car licence) | National licence + IDP |
| Scooter | up to 50 cc | AM | National licence + IDP |
| Scooter | 125 cc | A1 (or A2 / A) | National licence + IDP |
| Scooter | 200 cc | A1 / A2 / A | National licence + IDP |
| Scooter | 350 cc | A2 or A | National licence + IDP |
A car licence does not cover a 125 cc scooter in Greece. It does cover an ATV, which is exactly why quads are the answer for most visitors. The reverse is not true: a motorcycle licence does not entitle you to a four-wheeler.
EU and EEA licences are valid as issued. Licences from outside the EU need an International Driving Permit alongside the national one. UK photocard licences are accepted for visitors without an IDP. If you hold A1 only and want the 200, ask us before you book. The full picture is in our guide to the driving licence you need in Greece.

The daily rate is not bait. It includes:
- Helmets for rider and passenger — mandatory under Greek law, no charge.
- Free delivery and collection at Karavostasi port, at any hotel, or at our Chora shop.
- 24/7 roadside assistance and an immediate replacement vehicle if something goes wrong.
- An island map with the dirt tracks marked, because mobile signal is not everywhere.
Insurance is included; the exact limits, excess and deposit are set out in the rental agreement — ask us when booking so you know them before you arrive. The same goes for the fuel policy and the minimum age: we tell you in writing rather than guess.
We do not ask for prepayment. You pay at handover, once you have seen the vehicle and signed. Questions before you arrive? Read the rental FAQ or message us on WhatsApp.
Booking and pick-up
Folegandros has a small number of vehicles in total. In July and August, book three to six weeks ahead — ATVs go first, especially around the 15 August holiday. In May, June and September a few days' notice is usually enough.
Send us your dates, the vehicle you want and your ferry time. We confirm availability and price, with no prepayment. If your ferry changes — which happens when the meltemi blows — just tell us.
Give us the name of your ferry. We meet you at Karavostasi as it docks, helmets ready, and you ride up to Chora on your own vehicle instead of squeezing onto the bus.
Otherwise you can collect from our shop in Chora, open daily 08:00–22:00, or we bring the vehicle to your hotel. At handover we check licences, walk around the vehicle together, show you how it locks and sign the agreement. It takes ten minutes. Payment happens there, at the end. If you want help planning the days, get in touch.
Riding on Folegandros: what to watch for
The main Chora–Ano Meria road runs along the island's ridge, with sea on both sides. It is beautiful and exposed: when the meltemi blows you get side gusts that push a two-wheeler a lane sideways. Keep your shoulders loose, your speed down and both hands on the bars.
The descent to Agali is steep with tight hairpins. Go down in a low gear and brake before the bend, not in it; brakes heat up fast with two people aboard and wet swimsuits.
The dirt tracks towards Ambeli, Ligaria and the trailhead for Katergo are ATV work only. On a scooter, park on the tarmac and walk the rest.
Riding off marked roads and tracks is forbidden and voids the insurance. Sand, dunes and hiking paths are out of the question.
Practicalities: there is one petrol station on the island, on the Chora–Ano Meria road; fill up before a long day. Chora's historic centre is pedestrian only — park in the areas at the village entrance. And goats always have right of way. More in our guide to driving in Folegandros.

Where a vehicle actually takes you
Ten minutes of tarmac already gets you three beaches. Agali is 5 km from Chora, with sand, tavernas and footpaths west to Galifos and Agios Nikolaos — ten and twenty minutes on foot.
Livadaki and Katergo need a combination: vehicle to the end of the road, then a path, or a small boat from the port. Ambeli, north of Ano Meria, is the reward for having an ATV.
Before you set off, open the island map and pick two beaches, not five. The distances are short but the roads are slow, and the best hours for the far ends of the island are early morning or after five. See also our guide to the beaches of Folegandros.
