Livadaki is the west coast's reward for making the effort: a small bay of pale pebbles and sand below the lighthouse road, reached by 3 km of dirt track from Ano Meria and a final quarter of an hour on foot. Nothing about it is organised, the water is glassy on calm days, and the sun sets straight into the sea in front of you.
How to get there
By ATV from Chora take the spine road to Ano Meria, about 5 km of asphalt, then carry on along the dirt track signed for the lighthouse and Livadaki for about 3 km, until the flat area where the track ends and you leave the vehicle. The track is loose gravel with two or three steep bends; it is a ride for an ATV, not for a 125 scooter. From the parking the path drops to the bay in about 15 minutes.
On foot you can come down from Ano Meria on the old paths; allow at least an hour and carry plenty of water. In July and August some boat excursions from Agali include Livadaki; ask at Agali the day before, because it depends on the weather.

What to expect
Pebbles and coarse sand, transparent water that deepens gently and rocks at either end that are very good for a mask and snorkel. A couple of tamarisks at the back give a little shade, but do not count on them; there are no sunbeds, no taverna, no showers and no rooms. The only facility is the parking at the end of the track.
The bay faces west, so the weather matters: on meltemi days it is usually calm, while a westerly or south-westerly wind brings in swell. Livadaki is nudist-friendly and almost always empty. It is not a beach for small children: a path, no shade and no facilities.
Tips
The best time is the afternoon: swim while the sun drops, then climb back to the parking or towards the Aspropounta lighthouse for the sunset. Bring at least two litres of water per person, an umbrella, closed shoes and a torch if you plan to stay late, because the track has no lighting. Fill up at the island's only petrol station, on the Chora–Ano Meria road, before you set off.
The last 3 km are dirt: ATV only, always on the marked track, because riding off-road voids the insurance. Do not attempt it on a scooter and do not come down after dark without a torch.
